First, the honest part: I am not in Sydney
I work from Kathmandu and I have no Sydney office, no local staff and no address in New South Wales. If you want someone who can sit in your boardroom on Thursday, hire a Sydney agency; that is a real advantage and no amount of video calls replaces it.
What being remote does not change is the work. Search results, ranking factors, Search Console data and the tools that produce the analysis are identical from here. Every recommendation is based on the google.com.au results your customers see, checked for the suburbs you serve. What it changes is the fee, which reflects Kathmandu costs rather than Sydney ones, and the meeting pattern, which is scheduled calls plus written updates instead of drop-ins.
One thing I genuinely cannot do is give your business a Sydney address. Google Business Profile requires a real location or service area, and there is no legitimate way around that. What I do is optimize the profile you already have, which is where most of the local ranking work happens anyway.
Sydney industries where the work transfers
Sydney’s search competition is concentrated in a few high-value sectors, and my experience lines up with several of them.
- Finance, mortgage broking and fintech. The CBD is the centre of Australian financial services, and it is the sector where I have the most Australian experience: the published Better Broking engagement is a mortgage brokerage whose cost per acquisition fell 35% in 60 days. See banking and finance SEO.
- Professional services and law firms. Practice-area pages, suburb intent and reputation all matter more than volume here. See law firm SEO.
- Technology and software. Sydney has the largest concentration of Australian technology companies, and their SEO problem is usually content and architecture rather than location. See SaaS SEO and B2B SEO.
- Property and real estate. Suburb-level pages, agent profiles and listings that Google can actually index. See real estate SEO.
- Medical and specialist clinics. Specialists competing on procedure searches across the metro area. See healthcare SEO.
Local search in a city that is thirty suburbs wide
Sydney is not one local market. Someone in Parramatta searching for a service gets different map results from someone in Bondi or Penrith, and a single page targeting “Sydney” competes with everyone while ranking for nobody in particular. The work that actually moves local rankings here:
- Google Business Profile done properly: correct primary category, service areas that match where you really work, services listed individually, photographs added regularly, and questions answered. See Google Business Profile optimization.
- Reviews as an ongoing system, not a burst before a busy season. Volume, recency and replies all count.
- Suburb and region pages that are genuinely different: local landmarks, actual jobs done there, travel times, pricing differences. Twenty near-identical suburb pages is a pattern Google has been discounting for years.
- Citations and directory consistency so the same name, address and phone number appear everywhere.
- Service pages strong enough to rank organically, because the map pack is only part of the page and the results below it convert well.
The full method is on local SEO, and businesses with several Sydney locations should read multi-location SEO.
What a Sydney engagement includes
- Technical audit and implementation: crawling, indexing, Core Web Vitals, schema and redesign cleanup. See technical SEO.
- Keyword research on google.com.au for your services and the suburbs you actually serve.
- Content briefs and copy with one intent per page, in Australian English.
- Local SEO and Google Business Profile work as described above.
- Link acquisition from Australian and industry sources through real outreach.
- Conversion tracking in GA4 and Google Tag Manager so leads and calls are counted before we judge anything.
- Paid search alongside organic where it fits, described on Google Ads for Australian businesses, and paid social on Meta Ads for Australian businesses.
Hours, currency and how we work together
Nepal is four and a quarter hours behind Sydney on AEST and five and a quarter behind on AEDT, so my 9am to 6pm covers your early afternoon into the evening. Calls sit in your afternoon; day-to-day updates are written, and I reply within 4 business hours on business days. Fees are quoted per scope after a free 30-minute discovery call, invoiced monthly in AUD, and engagements are month to month. Prices are on request. The practical details of access, invoicing and reporting for overseas clients are on working with international clients.
Start with a free audit of your site
Request a free SEO audit and I will record a walk-through of what is holding your site back in Sydney results and what I would fix first. Published results and method are in the case studies, the national picture is on SEO expert for Australian businesses, and the other city pages are Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth. If you would rather talk first, book a call.
