Commitment
This site should be usable by everyone, including people who use screen readers, keyboard navigation, magnification or voice control.
Standard
The site targets the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 at level AA. That is a target rather than a certified claim: the site has been tested by its developer against the AA criteria, but it has not been independently audited.
What has been done
Content is built with semantic HTML, so headings, lists and landmarks are announced correctly. Every page has exactly one main heading and a logical heading order with no skipped levels. Navigation menus are grouped and labelled without being announced as page headings, so a screen-reader user reaches the page’s own heading first.
Every function can be reached with a keyboard. A skip link jumps past the navigation to the main content. The main menu opens with the arrow keys, closes with Escape and returns focus to where it was; the mobile menu behaves the same way. The focus indicator is visible on every interactive element.
Text and interface colours are checked against the AA contrast thresholds, and the site currently has no failures. Text can be resized to 200% without loss of content, and layouts reflow from 1920 pixels down to 320 pixels wide without horizontal scrolling. Animation is limited, and stops entirely for visitors whose system asks for reduced motion.
Where an icon carries meaning it is accompanied by text; purely decorative icons are hidden from assistive technology. Links are written to describe where they go, so there is no “click here” or “read more” anywhere on the site. Form fields have visible, associated labels.
Known limitations
Two areas are outside my direct control:
- Embedded third-party content, such as the map on the contact page, is controlled by the provider and may not meet the same standard. The map loads only if you choose to open it, and the address is written out in text next to it, so no information is available only inside the embed.
- Some interactive tools present their results in a table. On a narrow screen those tables scroll sideways within their own container rather than reflowing.
The site does not currently publish images or downloadable PDFs. If either is added, alternative text and tagging will be part of publishing them.
Reporting a problem
If something on this site blocks you, get in touch through the contact page with the page address and a description of what happened. I aim to reply within five working days and to fix issues that prevent access as a priority.
