Why the profile matters more than the website for local searches
For “near me” and “in Kathmandu” searches, Google shows three business profiles before it shows any website. The profile is what people see first, and often the only thing they see before calling. Yet most profiles I review in Nepal were set up once, given a generic category, one logo image and no services, and never touched again. Fixing that is the narrowest service among my SEO services and often the one with the quickest visible effect.
This page is for the profile itself. If you also need location pages, citations and local links on the website, the broader local SEO services page describes the full programme; profile optimization is included in it.
Who this is for
- Businesses whose profile is unclaimed, duplicated, suspended or managed by a former employee or agency.
- Clinics, hotels, restaurants, showrooms, law firms and agencies in Nepal that want the map pack without a full SEO retainer.
- Companies abroad with several profiles that need consistent categories, services and review handling.
- New businesses that want the profile set up correctly from day one rather than fixed later.
What Google Business Profile optimization includes
- Ownership and cleanup: claiming or recovering the listing, merging or removing duplicates, removing former managers, and setting up the right owner and manager roles.
- Category selection: the primary category chosen from the categories competitors in your map pack use and the searches you want, plus the secondary categories that expand eligibility without diluting relevance.
- Business information: name exactly as it appears on signage (no added keywords), address format Google accepts, service area settings, phone, website link to the correct landing page, and hours including holidays and Dashain and Tihar closures.
- Services and products: every service listed with a description and price where you are comfortable publishing one; products with photos for retail and hospitality.
- Description and attributes: a description that states what you do and for whom, and the attributes (women-owned, wheelchair access, online appointments, payment types) that appear as filters.
- Photos and videos: an initial set covering exterior, interior, team, work and products, named and geotagged, and a monthly schedule after that.
- Reviews: a request process (QR code, WhatsApp message, follow-up email), reply templates, and monitoring so replies go out within a day. No purchased or incentivized reviews.
- Posts and Q&A: offers, events and updates posted on a schedule; the Q&A section seeded with the questions your staff hear most, answered from the owner account.
- Messaging and booking: chat enabled with a staff member responsible for it, and booking or reservation links connected where the industry supports them.
- Tracking: UTM tags on the website link, call tracking where useful, and monthly reporting of searches, views, calls, direction requests and website clicks from the profile’s performance data.
How the work runs
- Review. I check the profile against the guidelines and against the three profiles currently in your map pack: categories, completeness, photo count, review count and velocity, and Q&A. Suspension risks are flagged first.
- Setup or rebuild (week one). Ownership sorted, duplicates handled, every field completed, first photo set uploaded, services and products entered.
- Website alignment (week two). The landing page the profile points to gets matching name, address, phone and LocalBusiness schema; that page is where schema markup earns its keep.
- Review process live (weeks two to four). Materials for staff, reply templates, first replies to the backlog of unanswered reviews.
- Ongoing (optional monthly). Photos, posts, Q&A, review replies, performance report, and a quarterly check of categories and competitors.
Suspended or removed profiles
Suspensions in Nepal usually trace back to a keyword-stuffed name, a residential or virtual address presented as a storefront, a category that does not match the business, or a duplicate listing. I identify the cause, correct it, gather the evidence Google asks for (registration, signage photo, utility bill) and submit the reinstatement request. Creating a new listing while the old one is suspended is the most common mistake and I will not do it.
What to expect
On the Chandragiri Hills engagement, profile optimization with fresh photos, updated hours and a review generation strategy ran alongside technical and content work; the combined result was 180% organic traffic growth in six months. On its own, profile work typically moves a Nepali business into the map pack for its core terms within four to eight weeks when the competition is weak, and produces a measurable rise in calls and direction requests before website traffic changes. In competitive Australian, UK and US cities, the profile is necessary but not sufficient, and I will say so if a client needs the fuller local programme.
Pricing
Profile setup and optimization is a fixed-price project; ongoing management is a monthly add-on or part of any retainer on the SEO packages and pricing page.
