Readability & Keyword Density Checker (Free Tool)

Hard writing loses readers before it loses rankings. This checker gives you reading ease, grade level, sentence and paragraph length, and the phrases you have leaned on most, so you can fix the sentences doing the damage rather than guess at a word count.

What the score does and does not mean

Reading ease is calculated from two things only: how long your sentences are and how many syllables your words have. That makes it a useful mirror and a poor judge. It cannot tell whether an argument is clear, whether the order is logical, or whether the page answers the question someone arrived with. A page written for surgeons should score harder than one written for homeowners, and forcing it upwards would make it worse.

Use the number to find the sentences dragging it down, then read those sentences. Almost every improvement comes from splitting one long sentence into two, not from swapping a long word for a short one.

Density is a symptom, not a target

There is no keyword density that ranks a page, and there has not been for a long time. The reason to look at density is that repetition is obvious to a reader: when a phrase takes up a noticeable share of the text, the page reads as though it was written for a machine, and people leave. That is the cost, and it is enough of a reason on its own.

The phrase list here is more useful than the single density figure. If the phrases you have repeated most are not the subject of the page, the page has drifted. If the phrase you are targeting appears nowhere at all, the page may be about something adjacent to the query rather than about the query.

Sentence and paragraph length on a phone

Most visitors read on a phone, where a paragraph that looks reasonable in a document becomes a solid block of text. Long sentences and long paragraphs are flagged separately here because they are different problems: a long sentence is hard to follow, a long paragraph is hard to face.

Structure carries as much of the load as the sentences do. Headings that say what the section answers, lists where you are genuinely listing things, and an opening paragraph that states what the page is for, do more for comprehension than any readability score. That is how pages are written in the SEO content writing service, and it is one of the things assessed in a on-page SEO review.

Frequently asked questions

What reading ease score should I aim for?

The one that matches your reader. General consumer pages are usually comfortable in the plain-English range; technical or professional audiences read harder text without difficulty and often prefer precision to simplicity. Aiming at a number rather than an audience produces copy that patronises one group or loses another.

Is keyword density a ranking factor?

No. Search engines have long since moved past counting occurrences, and there is no percentage to hit. The reason to measure it is that heavy repetition reads badly to a human, which affects whether they stay on the page. Write the phrase where it belongs naturally and ignore the ratio.

How is reading time worked out?

It is the word count divided by 220 words a minute, which is a common assumption for adult silent reading and nothing more precise than that. Treat it as a rough sense of length rather than a measurement, since real reading speed varies enormously with the subject and the reader.
